Coming up in July we have the best betting event for tennis fans with Wimbledon 2017 getting underway in London, with our very own Andy Murray looking the defend this title.
The 131st renewal of this most prestigious Grand Slam event looks a wide open betting contest with no clear favourites standing out in both the Men’s and Women’s tournaments this year.
It looks quite a tough call to predict both the Wimbledon winners this year. In the Men’s, there is not much between the ‘Big 4’ of Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. Federer is the marginal favourite at 9/4 (3.25) with bet365 to win his 8th Wimbledon crown in SW19.
However, if you think that the home support can bring out the best of Andy Murray you can back the fiery Scot at 100/30 (4.33) with the bet365 sportsbook at the time of writing. There is sure to be fierce competition though with Rafael Nadal in such strong form at 9/2 (5.50) and the former top dog Novak Djokovic at a big looking price of 6/1 (7.00) at bet365.
This quartet of players have won the previous 14 Wimbledon’s between them, and it looks unlikely that anything will emerge from the chasing pack to cause an upset. The odds are then 14/1 or bigger rest which brings in last year’s runner up, the big serving Canadian, Milos Raonic.
Over in the Women’s tournament it’s even more wide open than the Men’s. Currently, Czech world number three Karolina Pliskova is the market leader at 9/2 (5.50) with recent winner Petra Kvitova next in the Wimbledon Women’s betting at 5/1 (6.00). It’s then into double figures and bigger the rest with a possible dark horse Garbine Muguruza available at a juicy 10/1 (11.00).
Of that trio, only Kvitova has won at Wimbledon before winning in 2011 and 2014. She has failed to win a Grand Slam since then however, but has been showing signs of a return to form with a win in the Birmingham Classic last Sunday. She beat Ashleigh Barty, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the final, and her game is well suited to playing on grass.
A good outside tennis bet for Wimbledon this year could be Angelique Kerber at 14/1 (15.00) with bet365. A runner-up to the now pregnant Serena Williams here last year, the German star already has shown Grand Slam winning form with 2 titles in 2016.
Recent unseeded French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko will be brimming with confidence and can also be backed at 14/1 (15.00) if you think she continue her winnings ways.
Johanna Konta will be the big British hope and she is the third favourite at 9/1 (10.00) to take top honours. It has been 83 years since there were British winners in both Men’s and Women’s tournaments and if you fancy a British double you can bet on the Murray / Konta double at 55/1 using bet365 tennis odds.
